This is our suggested itinerary, assembled from researched places. It is not an official touring route or a first-hand road test.
The day at a glance
The Hollies Farm Shop → Oulton Park → Beeston Castle → The Ice Cream Farm / Drive In.
Around 20 km between stops; allow 45–60 minutes on the road, including a little room for local traffic and finding parking. The routing model estimates 33 minutes before those allowances. Travel to the first stop and home from the last is additional.
Allow around 7 hours overall, including visits, lunch and transfers. Our suggested visit lengths and timetable are editorial estimates, not venue schedules.
Best planned for a dry spring or summer day with a spectator event at Oulton Park. Start with the circuit calendar: this itinerary depends on an event you can actually attend.
The route is one-way; it does not return you to the start.
1. The Hollies: Start With Something Good To Eat
Suggested arrival: 09:00. Allow 45–60 minutes.
Begin at the Little Budworth branch of The Hollies, where the farm shop and takeaway make a useful first stop for breakfast and something to take along for lunch. The takeaway offers indoor seating as well as a terrace and covered outdoor seating. Keep the morning simple: breakfast now, a picnic for later, and time to look through the shop before heading for the circuit.
Small idea for the day: let each passenger choose one thing for the picnic. It gives everyone a stake in a trip whose next stop is unapologetically about cars.
Arrival detail that matters: enter from the A49, following the brown sign. The Hollies explicitly warns that some navigation systems send visitors to its exit on Longstone Lane. Our first map point uses the coordinate supplied by the business.
Next leg: about 4.1 km to the main gate at Oulton Park. Allow 10–15 minutes; event queues can add more.
2. Oulton Park: Give The Cars The Morning
Suggested arrival: around 10:00. Allow 2–2½ hours.
Choose an event with a morning programme you want to watch. Make this a deliberately limited part of the day: enough time to settle beside the circuit, follow a session or two and explore the spectator areas permitted for that meeting. For someone new to motorsport, picking one car to follow is often a more inviting starting point than trying to understand the entire field.
Oulton Park says paddock access is normally open to the public during race events unless stated otherwise; pit-lane access is restricted to relevant passholders. Treat the paddock as an optional extra, subject to your meeting's arrangements.
You can bring your own food. Take a lunch break before leaving rather than trying to fit a separate restaurant booking between the circuit and the castle.
Before committing: check the event timetable, ticket requirements and gates in use. A track day or a quiet day on the circuit calendar does not by itself confirm spectator admission. The map point marks the main gate; follow staff directions for parking on the day. This is a spectator visit, not a driving experience on the circuit.
Next leg: about 10.5 km to Beeston Castle car park. Allow 20–25 minutes.
3. Beeston Castle: Change The Pace
Suggested arrival: around 13:30. Allow 1½–2 hours.
After the circuit, make the next part of the day a walk. Beeston Castle sits on a steep sandstone hill, with ruined walls, woodland paths and a summit view across the surrounding landscape. English Heritage also describes a reconstructed Bronze Age roundhouse and an exhibition exploring the site's long history.
The climb gives this stop its purpose: get out of the car, take your time and earn a different kind of view. You do not need another long list of attractions between the castle and the last stop.
Park opposite the entrance on Chapel Lane and continue on foot. Castle admission is ticketed; parking is charged for non-members under the arrangements described by English Heritage. Check opening dates, last admission and current charges before travelling.
The summit climb has steep slopes and uneven surfaces. English Heritage does not recommend wheelchair access to the summit or woodland walk, so this particular itinerary needs adapting for visitors with limited mobility. On wet or windy days, reconsider the climb rather than treating the timetable as a target.
Next leg: about 5.4 km to the Newton Lane approach for The Ice Cream Farm. Allow 10–15 minutes.
4. The Ice Cream Drive In: One Last Stop, Still About The Car
Suggested arrival: around 15:30–16:00, if the Drive In's opening hours allow. Allow 30–45 minutes.
Finish at The Ice Cream Farm near Tattenhall, choosing its Drive In for a short final treat. The venue's visitor map describes designated bays where your order is delivered for you to enjoy in the car or on deckchairs. It is a fitting ending: the car that brought everyone here becomes somewhere to sit together with an ice cream.
Use Newton Lane and follow the site's signs for the Drive In and customer parking. The map point marks the road access, not an individual ordering bay. The Drive In is separate from a visit to the main family attraction: check its own opening hours and current access arrangements, particularly outside the main season. If it is closed, finish after the castle rather than assuming you can enter the main attraction without a booking or ticket.

The points are ordered to match the map. Google Maps calculates its own roads between them, so its distance, timings and exact line may differ from the illustrated OSRM route. Follow current road signs and event directions.
Before you go
Check the circuit's spectator event and morning timetable first, then the castle's opening and last admission, then the Drive In's hours. Allow for event traffic. Budget for Oulton Park tickets, castle admission and parking, plus food; no current-price promise is made here.
This itinerary is unsuitable for a day out with a pet dog: Oulton Park's published rules allow only guide/assistance dogs. Check individual venue arrangements if travelling with an assistance dog.
